Worship and Liturgy

Altar Servers assist the priest and deacon during Mass and other liturgical celebrations.  Serving at the altar gives both young people and adults an opportunity to participate more fully in the liturgy, grow in their understanding of the Mass, and serve God and the parish community.

Youth servers must have received First Communion and be mature enough to carry out their responsibilities reverently and attentively.  Adult servers must be practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church. Training is provided.

Sacristans prepare the church and sanctuary for Mass and other liturgical celebrations.  Their responsibilities include arranging the sacred vessels, books, linens, and other items needed for worship, as well as ensuring that everything is properly cleaned, returned, and secured afterward.

This ministry is especially suited to dependable, detail-oriented individuals who have—or are willing to develop—an understanding of the Mass and the practical needs of the liturgy. Training is provided.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God during Mass and other parish liturgies. Through careful preparation and reverent proclamation, they help the assembly hear and reflect upon the message of Sacred Scripture.

Lectors should be confirmed Catholics in good standing with the Church and possess a clear, confident speaking voice. Training is provided to help each lector develop the skills needed to proclaim God’s Word with understanding, dignity, and faith.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the clergy in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. Some ministers may also bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are hospitalized, homebound, ill, or otherwise unable to attend Mass.

Those who serve in this ministry must be confirmed, practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church. Ministers receive formation and are commissioned in accordance with diocesan and parish guidelines.

Ushers and Greeters extend the hospitality of our parish by warmly welcoming parishioners and visitors as they arrive for Mass. They assist those who may need help finding seating, answer questions, provide assistance during the liturgy, collect the offertory, and help ensure that the church and commons remain orderly and welcoming.

This ministry is ideal for friendly, observant, dependable people who enjoy helping others feel comfortable and included in our parish community.

The Music Ministry supports the prayer of the assembly by planning, preparing, and leading music for Masses and other liturgical celebrations. This ministry includes choir members, cantors, instrumentalists, accompanists, and other musicians who offer their gifts in service to God and the parish.

Participants should possess an appropriate level of musical ability and be willing to attend rehearsals and prepare carefully for scheduled liturgies. Those who enjoy singing or playing an instrument are encouraged to inquire about ways to participate.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word helps young children hear and understand the Sunday Scripture readings at an age-appropriate level. During designated Masses, children are invited to hear the Gospel, reflect on its meaning, pray together, and participate in a related activity before returning to the larger assembly.

Adult leaders use prepared materials to guide the children, while adult or youth aides provide assistance. Leaders should enjoy working with children, possess good communication skills, and complete all required diocesan safe-environment training.

The Art and Environment Ministry helps create a prayerful and beautiful worship space that reflects the seasons and celebrations of the Church’s liturgical year. Volunteers assist with decorations, flowers, banners, and other visual elements that enhance the church while respecting the sacred character of the sanctuary.

Anyone with an interest in decorating, arranging flowers, planning seasonal environments, or simply lending a helping hand is welcome. Much of the work takes place in preparation for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and other major celebrations.

The Altar Linens Ministry provides careful and reverent care for the linens used during the celebration of the Eucharist. Volunteers launder and prepare the linens according to established Church guidelines so they are ready for each liturgy.

Occasional sewing assistance may also be needed for altar linens, stoles, banners, or items used during OCIA and other parish celebrations. This quiet, behind-the-scenes ministry is a meaningful way to serve the Eucharistic life of the parish.
